Practice Modules

Practice Modules are a key component of the Practising Certificates Scheme for individuals applying for their first practising certificate (PC), as well as those returning to a PC role.

They offer a valuable opportunity for candidates to engage with real-life, practice-specific scenarios and reflect on the types of challenges they may encounter as a PC holder.

Through interactive, case-based discussions, participants will demonstrate their understanding of the responsibilities and complexities associated with holding a PC, while gaining practical insights into real-world scenarios.

Format

  • Practice Modules are delivered as online workshops, each focused on a case study tailored to a specific PC type.
  • Candidates must attend a session aligned to the PC they are applying for.
  • The workshops are facilitated by a current or recently retired PC holder with expertise in the relevant practice area.
  • All workshops are held online, typically from 09:30 to 11:30 UK time.
  • Case studies are shared with participants at least five working days prior to the scheduled workshop, allowing time for preparation and reflection.

What to expect from the workshops

Our workshops are designed to be interactive, insightful and practical – giving you the opportunity to apply your knowledge in a real-world context.

Format and duration

Each workshop is held online and runs for about two hours. You will join a small group of up to five participants, guided by an experienced facilitator.

The workshop centres around a case study discussion, allowing you to explore the scenario and share your perspectives.

Before the workshop

You will receive the case study at least five days in advance, giving you time to review the scenario thoroughly and reflect on how you would approach the situation.

We recommend setting aside around four hours for preparation.

During the workshop

You will have the opportunity to demonstrate your thinking, hear views from peers, and engage in meaningful discussion.

You will be asked to:

  • Share your assessment of the case study using the questions provided
  • Explain how you would respond to the scenario
  • Demonstrate qualities in line with the PC competency framework
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of the current market and regulatory environment in your chosen specialism.

To successfully complete the workshop, you will need to:

  • Demonstrate your own understanding of the scenario and actively participate in the discussion
  • Respond to questions from the facilitator
  • Challenge ideas constructively and be open to respond to challenge.

After the workshop

You will receive the outcome via email shortly after the session.
