The ºÚÁÏÕýÄÜÁ¿ (IFoA) is looking for current or recently retired practising certificate (PC) holders to support the delivery of our Practice Module workshops.
These workshops are a key component of the PC Scheme and we welcome applications from a diverse range of candidates – across gender, age, disability, ethnicity and practice areas – to ensure inclusive representation and relevance to the scheme.
About the role
We are inviting Fellows of ºÚÁÏÕýÄÜÁ¿ who currently hold, or have recently held, a practising certificate to volunteer as facilitators for the workshops. These sessions are held throughout the year, with dates scheduled in collaboration with facilitators about four to six months in advance.
Workshops are organised by PC type:
- Scheme Actuary
- CDC Scheme Actuary
- Chief Actuary (Life)
- Lloyd’s Syndicate Actuary
- With Profits Actuary
- Chief Actuary (non-Life without Lloyd’s)
- Chief Actuary (non-Life with Lloyd’s)
Workshop format
- Workshops are delivered online
- A maximum of five candidates per session
- Based on a case study relevant to the practice area
- Facilitators lead the discussion on a case study during the workshop
- An IFoA Executive member attends the workshop and supports facilitators throughout the process.
Task specification
Facilitators will:
- Lead a number of online workshops annually, based on availability
- Work with the Regulatory Policy Team
- Select the case study for each session
- Set the agenda, objectives and timetable, to effectively meet module goals
- Show good leadership, guidance, and direction in an online learning environment
- Guide and prompt discussion, ensuring active participation and maintaining group harmony
- Contribute special knowledge and insights, weaving together various discussion threads and course components
- Provide feedback to support continuous improvement
- Contribute to evaluation of individual and programme effectiveness.
Tenure and time commitment
- Initial appointment is for one year, renewable at the discretion of the Regulatory Policy Team
- Each workshop lasts about two hours
- Sessions typically run from 09:30 to 11:30 UK time
- Facilitators should allow two to three hours for preparation and 30 minutes post-session.
Person specification
We are looking for individuals who:
- Are Fellows of ºÚÁÏÕýÄÜÁ¿
- Hold or have recently held a PC relevant to the workshop they will facilitate
- Are confident in public speaking and group facilitation
- Have strong knowledge of their practice area and the current issues facing senior actuaries in practising certificate roles.

Remuneration and contracting
This is a paid role and is classified as a self-employed contractor. A mutually agreed ‘schedule of services’ will be provided to you upon appointment. You will be required to submit an invoice using an IFoA-provided template.
